Montgomery uses LRS for residential garbage and recycling, and the program has some of the clearest rules in the area. There is a strict one-large-item-per-week limit for free pickup, and if your mattress isn’t in a plastic bag, it won’t be taken. Montgomery also runs two free special collection weeks per year, spring and fall, which are genuinely useful if you time them right. This guide covers all of it.
Montgomery Bulk Pickup: LRS Rules

Item limit: One large item per week at no charge. Additional items cost $20 each. Advance notice of 48 hours is preferred.
Appliances and white goods: Washers, dryers, dishwashers, air conditioners, stoves, and refrigerators are all accepted. Refrigerators and items with refrigerants require advance scheduling.
Mattresses and box springs: Must be enclosed in a plastic mattress cover or fully wrapped in plastic for health and safety compliance. Bags are sold at Walmart, Target, Home Depot, and Lowe’s for $5-$10 each. An unwrapped mattress will be left at the curb.
Carpet: Accepted in rolls up to 4 feet long and 50 pounds each. Eight rolls count as one item.
Montgomery’s Free Special Collection Weeks
This is the most useful free disposal option Montgomery residents have. LRS provides two sticker-free special collection weeks per year:
- Spring 2026: April 6-17, 2026
- Fall 2026: November 9-20, 2026
During these weeks, yard waste and organics go out without stickers. This is the right time to tackle a larger yard cleanout, leaf and brush pile, and garden cleanup. Note that the standard bulk item limit still applies for non-yard-waste material. These weeks are for yard and organic waste, not general junk.

Household Hazardous Waste Near Montgomery
Montgomery sits on the Kane/Kendall County border along Route 30. The best HHW option for residents is the Naperville HHW Facility at 156 Fort Hill Drive, Naperville, IL 60540. Open Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., free, no appointment needed. Takes oil-based paints, aerosols, automotive fluids, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, pesticides, propane tanks up to 20 lbs, solvents, and more. Latex paint is not accepted (dry it with kitty litter, then trash it).
For electronics, the Kane County Recycling Center in Geneva (517 E. Fabyan Pkwy.) is accessible on weekdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. TVs and monitors accepted with a small fee.
What Self-Hauling Costs from Montgomery
Transfer stations serving the Kane/Kendall area charge at commercial rates with a one-ton minimum. Most residential cleanout loads are well under a ton, so you pay the minimum regardless. Truck rental, fuel, and the minimum dump fee together typically run $200-$350 before your time is counted.
Montgomery’s Route 30 corridor has seen a lot of residential development over the past two decades. Many households have older appliances and furniture from before that growth.
