"The price changed after the truck showed up. I'd taken the whole day off."
— What we hear from almost every new customerWe Built Our Business Around That Complaint
Bait-and-switch pricing and no-show crews are the two things people hate most about junk removal. So those are the two things we refuse to do. You get a price on the phone. We show up when we said. That number doesn't change at the door.

Hot Tub Removal in Aurora, IL
The most common call we get about hot tubs starts with "we thought we could handle it ourselves." Hot tubs look manageable because they are mostly hollow. But a standard spa weighs between 500 and 800 pounds when empty, and the foam insulation inside the shell retains water for years after the last drain. The weight never fully comes out. This is a job that requires proper equipment and crew, not muscle and optimism.
What the Job Involves
- Draining residual water from the shell and plumbing lines
- Confirming electrical supply is off and properly disconnected before work begins
- Breaking down the unit if it cannot move through available access points
- Removing the cabinet, shell sections, foam insulation, and plumbing components
- Hauling the cover, steps, and all associated equipment
The Electrical Disconnect: Do This Before We Arrive
Nearly all hot tubs run on dedicated 240-volt circuits. This is not a standard outlet you can unplug. The circuit must be shut off at the breaker panel and the wiring properly terminated before we touch the unit. We do not handle live electrical work. Before we arrive, the dedicated circuit breaker should be switched off and locked, or a licensed electrician should have disconnected the wiring at the disconnect box. If you are not sure how yours is wired, a quick call to an electrician will get it sorted and allow us to proceed safely.
Access Is the Main Variable
A hot tub on an open patio with a wide side yard gate is a clean job. A hot tub decked in, surrounded by fencing, or accessible only through the house is a different situation. We cut and section units that cannot move through available openings. That adds time, which affects the price. When you call, describe the access specifically: where the tub sits, what surrounds it, and how wide the opening is from the backyard to the street. That information determines the quote.
Why Hot Tubs Almost Never Have Resale Value
Hot tub jets, plumbing manifolds, and heater elements are specific to each manufacturer and model. A used spa that needs new jets costs more to repair than it is worth to buy. Unless the unit is very recent and in excellent condition, the secondary market is essentially nonexistent. We will tell you honestly if a unit looks like it might have value, but in most cases the right answer is to haul it.
Common Reasons for Hot Tub Removal
- Selling a home and the buyer does not want it included
- Unit stopped working and repair cost is not justified
- Deck renovation that requires the space
- New hot tub being installed and the old one has to come out first
- Tired of the maintenance cost and want the yard space back
We remove hot tubs throughout Aurora, Naperville, Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles, and the Fox Valley. Scheduling depends on access details and crew availability.

About Hot Tub Removal
Do I need to drain the hot tub before you arrive?
You can drain it ahead of time if you prefer, but it is not required. We drain on-site using the tub's built-in drain or a submersible pump. Draining takes 45 to 90 minutes for a standard 400 to 500 gallon spa. If you want to drain it yourself, connect a garden hose to the drain valve at the bottom and run it to an appropriate drainage point.
Does the hot tub need to be cut up to remove it?
Usually yes. Unless the tub can physically pass through your gate in one piece u2014 which is rare u2014 we cut the shell and foam insulation into sections using reciprocating saws. This is what makes it possible to carry the pieces out through a standard gate or around the side of a house without tearing up your fence or landscaping. The entire unit leaves: shell, foam, motor, pumps, and surround.
Do I need an electrician to disconnect the wiring before you come?
Not in most cases. Most hot tubs run on a dedicated breaker with an accessible disconnect panel nearby u2014 turning the breaker off is all that is needed. If your tub is hard-wired without an accessible disconnect box, let us know before we schedule. That situation may require an electrician first.
Can you remove a hot tub that is enclosed by a deck or fence?
Tight access is one of the most common complications we encounter. We assess the access situation before quoting. If the tub is enclosed by a deck, inside a gazebo, or behind a narrow gate, we plan the extraction accordingly. Sometimes that means partially disassembling the surrounding structure, which affects the quote. Call us and describe the setup u2014 we will tell you exactly what is involved before we schedule.
